2008 Howling Bluff Estate Pinot Noir 215 cases produced, $29/bottle
The third release for this estate wine and what big shoes to follow, 2006 with the Lt Governors award for
excellence to mention one among many awards for that wine. The 2007 with first place Peoples Choice in the
2009 fall Okanagan Wine festival among other awards it received and it sold out two days after it was
officially released. Now the third vintage, 2008 saw us take the big risk with wild (natural) yeast in the
reds. The 2008 estate Pinot Noir was the first wine we let ferment with wild yeast. The wine was then aged
in premium new and 2nd fill French oak for 12 months. The nose is a beautiful combination of ripe strawberry
and cherry with notes of sweet spice, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. The palate is silky in texture and shows
vanilla, cherry, raspberry and sweet baking spice. The finish lingers long on the palate and the wine
continues to evolve and develop complexity in the glass. This wine is perfect to pair with richer meat
dishes. The wine was aged for 12 months in premium French oak, drink now to 7 years.
2009 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 330 cases produced, $19/bottle
This is the 4th year for this rare estate wine and I think I'm on to something.
The 2009 year was simply the best vintage so far, hot, dry days, cool nights and lots of wind and
no rain. The result was the best
looking grapes yet. We let natural yeast do the ferment for us; those of you that know what a risk that is will appreciate
how far we will go to make remarkable wine. For 2009 we added one new premium French oak barrel to the three from last
year and filled them just after fermentation started. We left everything outside to let Mother Nature do the needed cold
stabilization. The barrel fermented wine was married to the stainless steel fermented wine just a few weeks ago. The
result is a wine with great complexity. This wine shows true varietal aromas of guava and passion fruit with hints of
citrus and a slightly earthy, mineral characteristic. The palate is fresh and crisp with good length and perfect balance,
a great summer sipper and will also stand up to bold foods. Great now but will reward cellaring for 3 to 5 years Besides
being tasty right now this stuff is a keeper. Jen still has two cases for the 2008 hidden away and it is drinking fantastic
right now. We make wine that will age, and if you can keep some back and try it every two months for a year or so I think
you will be very happy.
